Niagara University Hockey Notches First Win of Postseason against Army

The Niagara Purple Eagles have secured their first win in the Atlantic Hockey postseason, defeating Army by a score of 4-1 at Dwyer Arena on Saturday night. The team's victory eliminates Army from the tournament and marks an important milestone for Niagara as they continue to push forward.

Despite being outshot 27-19 through two periods, Niagara managed to take the lead thanks to a dominant second period performance. They outshot Army 16-9 in the frame, with key contributions from Glebs Prohorenkovs, Olivier Gauthier, and Lule Mylymok.

The trio of players worked together to create pressure around the Army net, with Gauthier playing a crucial role in setting up Carlin for his third goal of the season. Noah Carlin's sneaky move down from his defense position allowed him to capitalize on Prohorenkovs' puck play, giving Niagara a 2-1 lead at the 15:59 mark.

Army managed to tie the game at one on the power play, but Richard would go on to score his eighth goal of the season in the opening period. After gaining control of the puck, he went on a contested breakaway and scored despite being stick-checked from behind.

Niagara's first goal came just past the midway mark of the opening period, with Jack Richard jumping over the boards to cause a turnover at the red line. The team has now scored first 14 times this season, showcasing their ability to come out strong in games.
